The Deep Blue
At first I couldn’t decide on a name. I tried to be clever with words and that didn’t land a big ‘yes’ in my body. I tried to make the name relevant to what I was going to write about it, and then a friend asked, why? Not everyone’s Substack name explains what their writing is about…
1. Why Over the Ocean?
And without any pressure the first words that came to my mind were Over the Ocean. I love the ocean. Sometimes she feels like my second home, and I can’t think of many lessons in life that can’t be explained by the way the ocean does her thing. The tides, the storms, the peaceful lapping waves, the power, the gentleness, she has it all!
2. What will it be?
I have been writing for as long as I can remember as a way to make sense of the world, of my thoughts, of the events in my life. I got brave and started blogging a few years ago, which faded and most of the writing remained in my journal or on my laptop.
Last year I published my first book, breaking open - a healing journey back home. And still I felt a wanting with my writing, a sense of community. A sharing, collaboration, inspiration and a lighting up. And when I listened to a podcast with Sara Tasker and Farrah Store, Why you need to join Substack, I felt excitement and possibility well up.
3. So here I am
And what will you find here? A combination of poems, prose, my responses to writing prompts, thoughts on life, my journey with a body that calls for deep listening and nourishment, and all that has taught me, and continues to teach me.
I’m sure there will be posts about one of my besties, Millie (my dog), the ocean, and all that it is to be human and my thoughts and experiences around it at this time.
I would love to create a space where we can share, ask questions and be vulnerable.
I hope you enjoy, and if there is anything you’d love to hear more about in my world, please, please let me know!
Hi Kali, that's a beautiful photo, and a scene close to my heart. Would love to know where you are based in NZ. You can email me if you don't want to let the whole world know. 😉 NZ is the kind of place you kind of want to keep secret but also kind of want to brag about. 💜 Lovely to have you here! Jo
